12v Power Outlet died – 2006 Honda Accord VP?

Well,
I have searched all over the web to figure out the problem with this one.

I first checked the fuse boxes (of course) and not one fuse is blown. I then attempted removing the center console to check the wiring, and that was also completely in tact. I am now at a loss as to what would be wrong. I am not sure how to replace the entire unit, and I don’t have money to pay someone hundreds of dollars to fix electrical problems that can more-than-likely be done easily myself. I just need to know how.

Has anyone had any experience with similar issues? Can I just buy a replacement 12v unit with the wires hanging off that I saw at Auto Zone? Could this have anything to do with the fact that my dome light has also stopped working for months, even though I checked the fuses and changed the bulb?

the fuse may be good but the relay for the accessory power socket may not be.

Here’s something to try–go to the under dash fuse and relay box.when you look at it you’ll see the three rows of fuses.above those rows will be two rows of rectangular plastic boxes.those are the relays.looking at the fuse box, the relay for the accessory power socket will be second relay from the right on the uppermost of the two rows.

Honda relays are usually the same. The relays just pull out as you would unplug a plug from an electrical socket in your house.Pull the relay out for the accessory power socket.then pull out another relay from that row and put it in the power outlet relay socket.if there are different color relays (black and grey for example) then make sure that the relay you pull out is the same color.you can substitute any of the same color relay from either of the two rows for the purposes of testing.

after you plug the test relay in, try the socket.if it works, then you know its a relay problem and not the socket.

the fuses for that circuit are both in the under-dash fuse box; fuses 9 and 32.

the honda accessory socket has two leads, one for power and one for ground. the ones in the part store usually only have a power lead and they won’t work unless you run a separate ground wire or splice into the ground wire on the original harness.I really don’t think the problem is with the socket; that would be very unusual on a 5 year old car.

the problem with the accessory power outlet is unrelated to the dome light.

try to swap the relays and see what happens.

hope that helps

When you say you checked the fuse, I assume you know there are two fuse panels.(One under the hood and one under the dash on the driver’s side kick panel). You want the one under the dash.I don’t have a book with me but I think you want to check fuses 9 and 32.I’ll eat crow later if I have to.If you can borrow a multimeter you can check the wire connection at the power outlet to see if its getting power. With a car that is only five years old I can’t imagine its more than a fuse or the outlet itself.
